Easter activities for the whole family
The Easter holidays are a great time to spend time together as a family, with friends or with a GrandFriend.
Here are a few ideas to keep you entertained (rain or shine) over the long weekend and the rest of the school holidays.
#1 Easter egg hunt
A classic Easter egg hunt never goes out of style. Try colour coding eggs so that each age group gets their own set to hunt (great if you have a large group to make sure younger kids don’t miss out). You could also turn your egg hunt into a treasure hunt with a map or include clues or riddles to solve. If you don’t want to overdo the chocolate, think about interspersing it with non-edible treats like stickers, bubbles or small toys.
#2 DIY Easter crafts
Younger children can decorate paper Easter eggs with crayons, glitter, and stickers. Older kids might enjoy making bunny masks, Easter baskets, or garlands. Don’t forget good old-fashioned egg painting—hard-boiled eggs or blown-out shells make perfect canvases for kids’ imagination.
#3 Bake Easter treats
Baking is a fun (and delicious) way to spend time together. Simple recipes like Easter cupcakes, bunny-shaped cookies, or chocolate nests are easy for children to help make and decorate. Not only does this activity create great holiday memories, but it also helps kids develop their fine motor skills and learn things like measuring.
#4 Easter story time or movie night
There are lots of Easter themed books for children of all ages, from the classic Velveteen Rabbit and Peter Rabbit to Easter themed books for popular characters like Bluey and Peppa Pig. Or set up a movie night with a bunny-friendly line-up - think Peter Rabbit or Zootopia. Don’t forget the popcorn and maybe a few chocolate eggs for dessert!
#5 Neighbourhood Walk
Take a stroll around the neighbourhood on an “Easter Bunny Hop.” Print out a simple Easter scavenger hunt list—like spotting flowers, birds, bunny decorations, or pastel-coloured houses. It’s a fun, active way to enjoy the outdoors and burn off some of that Easter sugar.
#6 Create an Easter Giving Basket
Teach kids about kindness by assembling Easter baskets to share. Fill them with homemade treats, crafts, or small gifts, and deliver them to friends, neighbours, or local shelters.
